Lake King

Forget Lake Shelbyville - the backyard is now "Lake King." Two days ago I was compelled to attempt to mow at least half the yard, now it is all under water!

I have three lawn mowers. I bravely went to the garage to start the rider - no luck (battery seemed to be dead). No problem - went to the "shed" to start the self-propelled, walk-behind mower - no luck (who knows, would not "catch" either while plugged in and turning the key, or when I attempted to "pull" start). On to the third, and ancient Murry. You know the one - primary purpose is to mow the ditches. This little gem is about 40-years old, only pull starts, and is NOT self propelled. It fired up and I spent the better part of two hours pushing it around the backyard area. No running or training needed.

Last night, after the rain started, BK could not wait to go out. After two "false starts" (you know - went out and returned), he went into the rain. I kept turning on the back light to see if he was around and wanted to return. No sign of him. I headed for bed aobut midnight and once again attempted to see if he was there - nope. I was almost asleep, when the pathetic cry came through the door. He was SOAKED! Poor thing - could not wait to get inside.

Today is terribly unpleasent outside. Rain in the morning and now the cold winds are whipping about at 35 or 40 mph. I need to see if the rider battery is fully charged. Backyard is a lake, but if it won't rain any more today/tonight I will be able to whack off the tops of the grass stalks in front before heading home for Easter.

Took time for the community Good Friday service at noon. Very good - and the soup lunch afterward has totally filled me up. Let's hope the food settles during the next couple hours so a couple miles can be accomplished on the treadmill.

Of course, the lake could expand (much like my stomach), and then mowing would not be possible. I am not sure if that would be a happy thought or not.
